The Orange County Convention and Civic Center opened in 1983. It is the primary public convention center for the Central Florida region. It is the second-largest convention facility in the United States. after McCormick Place in Chicago.
Universal Orlando, founded on June 7, 1990, consists of two theme parks (Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure), an on-site waterpark (Volcano Bay), an on-site entertainment district (Universal CityWalk). It is owned and operated by NBCUniversal.

This opening resulted in explosive population and economic growth for the Orlando metropolitan area, which now encompasses Orange, Seminole, Osceola, and Lake Counties. As a result, tourism became the centerpiece of the area’s economy. Orlando now has more theme parks and entertainment attractions than anywhere else in the world.
The present-day Orlando historic district is primarily associated with the neighborhoods around Lake Eola but stretches west across the city to Lake Lorna Dune and north into the College Park Neighborhood where you can find century-old oak trees with perfectly lined brick streets.
These neighborhoods include the “Downtown Business District,” “North Quarter,” “Parramore,” “Callahan,” “South Eola Heights,” “Lake Eola Heights,” “Thornton Park” and “College Park”, plus some of the oldest homes in Orlando.
